Many of our customers ask us the difference between a tablet and a laptop, and which one is best for them. When it comes to choosing between a new laptop or tablet it is best to first determine what your needs are and what you are planning on using it for.
In order to help you decide which one is best for you, here are some general differences between them that you should consider before deciding.
A tablet is a simple and very user friendly computer that allows you to browse the Internet, checking e-mail, watch videos, play basic games, and use social media such as Facebook®, Twitter®, etc. Tablets have a multi-touch display which is used by mainly touching, dragging or tapping to navigate around a program or website instead of using a keyboard and trackpad. The battery life of a Tablets use low efficiency due to the hardware component requirements and can last up to 10 hours on a charge, unlike the battery of laptop that only typically lasts 3 to 4 hours per charge. Because of the thin size of the tablet it uses solid state storage memory to store your programs and data, which means they normally have only 16 to 64 gigabytes of built in storage. In contrast to laptops that normally use a traditional hard drive that can hold up to 1TB of data.
The software that runs on a laptop or tablet can be vastly different in terms of capabilities. Most laptops will have either a version of Microsoft Windows® operating system or Apple’s OSX® operating system. While most tablets will be running a version of Google’s Android® or Apple’s iOS® software. This tablet software will do most of the basic tasks that a laptop can do for the most part, but at a slower pace. Some tablets, such as the HP Slate 500 or Asus Eee can also use Windows 7 software.
Since tablets are relatively new, they tend to have a higher price tag per performance cost. Laptops still have the advantage over tablets if you look at equivalent performance and features per cost.
In the end it does not matter what the reviews or experts say, the choice as to whether a tablet or a laptop is right for you is based solely on your needs. Take the time to think about what you are going to use it for, and make your decision based on which would be the best fit for you before making the purchase.
